James R. Rappaport, MD, is a well-versed neurosurgeon who diagnoses and treats patients at Sierra Regional Spine Institute in Reno, NV. Furthermore, he has staff memberships at several local hospitals, including St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center, Renown Medical Center, and Northern Nevada Medical Center. Prior to his current endeavors, Dr. Rappaport served as Staff Surgeon at Menlo Medical Clinic in Menlo Park, CA, Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of California, San Francisco, and Co-Director of the San Francisco General Hospital Spine Clinic. Over the years. He has received numerous awards, including the 2002 Faculty Recognition Award from the University of Nevada Family Medicine Residency Program, the 1980 Fife Award for Scholarship in Surgery from the University of California San Francisco School of Medicine, and the 1976 Kappa Sigma Award for Leadership and Scholarship from Stanford University. Dr. Rappaport currently holds several appointments, which include Principal Investigator for Benvenue “KIVA” Study, Principal Investigator for Kineflex™ Lumbar and Cervical Disc Replacement for Clinical Trials conducted at St Mary’s Regional Medical Center, and Principal Investigator for the Medtronic Evolve Study. James R. Rappaport, MD, attended the University of California, San Francisco School of Medicine in San Francisco, CA, and received his medical degree in 1980. Furthermore, he conducted his general surgery residency (1980-1982) and residency in orthopedic surgery (1982-1986) at the UCSF Medical Center. In addition, he completed his fellowships in spine surgery at the Texas Institute for Spinal Disorders in Houston, TX (1986-1987) and with the Dr. John O’Brien London Clinic in London, UK (1987-1987). In addition, Dr. Rappaport received board certification in orthopedic surgery from the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery (ABOS). He remains a Diplomate of the American Board of Forensic Examiners, as well as member of the Washoe County Medical Society, the American Medical Association, the Nevada State Medical Association, the Bay Area Spine Society, and the California Orthopedic Association. Moreover, he attained fellowship of American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and a Fellow of the American Back Society.
